Victory is one of my favorite bars in Portland, combining an everyman atmosphere with great food and great drinks. It's been the seen to many memorable nights, including the one depicted in the picture, where a six hour long barcrawl required me to take a bit of a smoke break before continuing the festivities. There's no other way to put it: Victory is simply a winner.
The beer list at Victory showcases an extensive array of Belgian beers by the bottle, and there are always a handful on tap as well. It's also a great place to go to get your cocktail on, including one of my favorites, the Corpse Reviver #4 featuring that West Coast favorite, Fernet.
The food at Victory is excellent, too, starting with the venison burger topped with fried, finely julienned leeks. But if I really had to pick a favorite dish here, it'd be the spaetzle. Who knew that the German variant of mac and cheese would make for such great drinking food?
I've often said that if I were to open a bar, I'd want it to be like Victory: great music, great decor, great food, great drinks all drawing a great crowd. Luckily, it's just as easy for me to hop down to SE Portland and have a stellar evening.
